Description
Merlin and the Thirteen Treasures of Britain
After the death of Arthur, the great bard of the British people, Taliesin, travelled to the north of Britain, to Hen Ogledd, in search of Merlin; whom, having gone mad, was living as a wild man amidst the great oaks and ash of the Caledonian Forest.
Taliesin found Merlin and by playing his harp to him, with sweet music and sacred water, he restored Merlin to his former wisdom then they talked of many things.
With clear thought Merlin realised that, with Arthur gone, the red dragon of the Britons was doomed and that the white dragon of the Saxons would claim the land.
The Britons had thirteen magical treasures of great renown sacred items that were charged and charmed with Otherworldly magic. Merlin travelled the land and gathered the treasures together all thirteen of them then he concealed them with powerful enchantments so that they would never fall into Saxon hands.
Where Merlin hid the Thirteen Treasures remains a mystery. Some people believe that he buried them on Bardsey Island; off the west coast of Wales. Some say that he buried them somewhere in the Isle of Glass (Glastonbury); whilst others say that the treasures were taken to the Otherworld, beyond the reach of mortal men.
